Jentile & McLaughlin heat
things up in July!
Story By:
Dino Oberto
The NEETS Enduro cars paid their fourth visit to Lehighton’s Mahoning Valley Speedway on Sunday afternoon which was dubbed “Beaters in July.”
Joe Jentile continued his hot streak as he notched his third straight win with the big cars while Vernon McLaughlin became the fourth different winner with the small cars.
On the card was a pair of 100 lap runs for the 6/8-cylinders and the 4-cylinders. Originally there was to be a TRUX feature but due to a very light turnout with the class they opted to run the few on hand with the 6/8-cylinders.
Up first were the big cars and jumping out to the early lead was Tim Pauch who was the pole sitter.
Pauch kept that spot until lap 28 at which time the swift moving Jentile motored his way around him.
Thereafter it was no contest as once again Jentile showed his dominance of the paved quarter mile, taking his third win and remains number one in career wins with NEETS.
Jentile’s teammate, Phil Lomonaco, was second with Richard Petey, Howie Bott and Pauch completing the top five.
In the small car race inside front row starter Bob Wohlgemuth took to the early lead and for some time appeared as though he could pull off the win.
McLaughlin, though, was coming up through the pack and just as they began to 58th lap, he stormed into the lead. There was no stopping him the rest of the way as the Wall Township Speedway Factory Stock point leader had an easy time on his way to victory.
Jon Smith and Duane Garrison had a great duel for second with Smith just holding on at the end. Don Rogers and John Saccomandi completed the top five.
