Steve Todorow and Tim Pauch Drive to NEETS Season Opener Victories at Grandview Speedway

Hot and dry racing conditions proved to be successful Sunday for the drivers that competed in the North East Enduro Tour Series (NEETS) opener, named the "Spring Fling" at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa. Lack of sight, but not lack of ability and endurance enabled Steve Todorow and Tim Pauch to gain victories in the 100-lap four cylinder and 6/8-cylinder events respectively.

The first division to his the speedway was the four cylinders, which were thirty one cars strong in the "Micro Dash" points event. The field was 31 cars strong and Phil Levering led the field to the drop of the green. John Saccomandi grabbed the race lead before Bob Wohgemuth took command. Levering retook the top spot on lap six and the two swapped the lead multiple times.

On lap thirty Lance Hoche blew a right front tire, disabling him on the front stretch until his teammate, Gary Grim, came to his rescue by pushing him toward the pit gate entrance, which brought out the first red flag condition.

Levering, who was in the lead on lap sixty-four, blew a tire and surrendered the lead to Wohlgemuth. Wohlgemuth began to experience mechanical woes and slowed. On lap sixty-seven, his very large gap on the rest of the field dwindled and Mike Ventura grabbed the race lead. Steve Todorow snuck by Ventura with five laps remaining and never looked back as he took the checkers over Mike Ventura, Dave Bentley, Jr., Bob Wohlgemuth and Travis Schwenk.

The win marked Todorow's first NEETS victory.

Thirty-nine 6/8-cylinders lined the track with a three-wide rolling start for the points paying "Mega Mosh" main event.

From the pole position, Mark Paine led the field to the green flag. He led the first six laps before slowing, which gave the lead to Pat Hires.

The red flag came out at lap eighteen when Cory Baver stalled in the middle of the track, just past turn four. Rick Latza slammed into the back of Baver's car, which heavily damaged it, but luckily both drivers were ok.

Duane Eidem assumed the race lead and was quickly overtaken by Chris Reichert. Eidem slowed on lap twenty-five and headed pit side, giving the sole lead to Reichert. Reichert slowed forty laps in and surrendered the lead to Howie Bott.

Several red flags were thrown during the mid part of the event.

First, Baver ran into the back of the dead car, which sent it downwards to the outskirts of the infield. Bott continued to lead when the green came back out.

On lap fifty-six Jack Zeilsdorff hit the inside guardrail and flipped on his side, which brought out the red once again. Jack was fine climbing out of the car under his own power. The tow truck helped flip the car back on its wheels, where it stayed for the remainder of the race.

Bott appeared to have the race in hand in the latter stages, but transmission troubles sidelined him. Veteran enduro racer, Tim Pauch, notched his second career Grandview win over Steve Haegele, Chris Reichert, Jimmy White and Jeff Hendricks. It was Pauch's second Grandview victory in as many seasons.

With the invention of the NEETS series back in 2003, enduro racing has once again become one of the main attractions in motorsports for many venues across the nation. The folks at NEETS want to thank the drivers, fans, tracks and participants in the sport that continue to carry on the legacy of enduro racing.

The next NEETS event at Grandview Speedway is slated for Sunday, May 24. For full race results and the complete 2009 NEETS schedule of events, along with the division rules, updates, contact and purse information for both the dirt and asphalt series, please visit www.neetsracing.com.
