The first race of the season for the North East Enduro Tour Series kicked off Sunday at Grandview Speedway. The great racing weather welcomed above average car counts and fans witnessed Jeff Walls, Tim Pauch, Jen Schwager and Scott Schaeffer notch their first wins of the season.

With 33 eager enduro drivers behind him at the start of the 100-lap Spring Fling opener, George Fulmore didn't have what most would call the best start.

He slid back before he could take the green and it was Jeff Walls who led the first lap. With the surface being slightly slick, it wasn't long before Walls fell back and Mike Wahl took the top spot.

Lance Hoch wanted some action as well and began to challenge Wahl as both swapped the lead several times. Steve Todorow, who was steadily making his way to the front, snatched the lead away from Hoch and began to pull away from the pack.

However, by lap 54, Todorow had to pit for a flat left front tire, leaving the door open for Hoch to re-gain the lead. But Walls wasn't finished yet and passed Hoch for the top spot as the remaining laps ran out.

Walls crossed the stripe for his first win of the season over Tom Kemmerer, Hoch, Bill Nickerson and Brian Smith.

Jerry Arms sat on the pole for the Savage 61 Dodge 6/8-cylinder 100 lap event and was quickly overtaken by Richard “Uncle” Petey, who led the first three circuits.

Mike Fiskaldo then took over and led until he smacked the front stretch wall, putting an end to his day. Chuck "The Captain" Detweiler then took the top spot with Pat Hires hot on his bumper.

A trip into the pits for the Captain put Hires in the lead with Tim Pauch closely behind. Pauch swapped the lead with Hires on several occasions.

Hires stayed close behind but disaster struck and he developed engine trouble, and then was sideline to the infield.

After putting the entire field a lap down, Tim Pauch took the win over Jason Brown, Steve Haegele, Howie Bott and Jeremy Krauss.

Jen Punchy Schwager bested the field in the 25-lap ladies race. Maria Barbieri, Carrie Pyle, Lisa Lazowicki and Linsey Rummel rounded out the top five.

Scott Schaeffer went to victory in the over 55 event, followed by Al Thomas, Rat Dog and Jim White.

The “Mother’s Day Melee” is the next NEETS event on the schedule at Grandview Speedway. The race is slated for Sunday, May 9. 100-lap events are planned for the Savage 61 Dodge 6/8-Cylinders and also for the 4-Cylinders. There is a special 50-lap ladies race in the works and all moms will be entered in the race for free.
