Mother's Day MeleeTim Pauch, Mike Wahl and Linsey Rummel Take NEETS Mother’s Day Melee at Grandview SpeedwayStory by:Geno Ostrowski TJMM Despite cold and windy conditions, diehard enduro racers and race fans alike headed to Grandview Speedway on Sunday for the Jlynn Photography sponsored “Mother’s Day Melee”, which was the second North East Enduro Tour Series (NEETS) of the season. When it was all said and done, Tim Pauch, Mike Wahl and Linsey Rummel found victory lane. The Savage 61 Dodge 6/8-cylinders took to the track for 100-laps of enduro action and what was to be a very exciting 100-lap event started with Jerry Shelly in the pole position. After leading for 11 laps, Shelly gave up the spot to Mike Fiskaldo but it was to be short lived as Fiskaldo had to retire to the pits with a flat tire. This launched Justen Steigerwalt into the limelight as the slick track conditions were still in play. Steigerwalt held the lead but had to pit for a flat and Shon Elk went to the head of the class and then received a flat himself. Pat Hires charged ahead to claim the top spot with Duane Eidem, who was not far behind, followed by Tim Pauch, running a close third. Hires machine started to smoke on lap 97 and he made a move into the infield leaving Eidem and Pauch to battle it out to the finish. With Eidem slightly ahead, a lapped car came into play as Eidem and Pauch took two different routes around it. It was Pauch who made it to the finish line first over Eidem, Rick Latza, Shawn Naftzinger and Chris Reichert. Steve Wilson started from the pole position and led the first lap in the 100-lap 4-cylinder enduro. Brian Yelk snatched the lead away by lap 2 and started to run away from the rest of the field. A red flag was displayed on lap 68 when Dave Bentley Jr. took a tumble through turns three and four. His car was seriously damaged and to the relief of everyone in attendance, Bentley emerged from the wreckage under his own power. Green flag racing resumed with Yelk still in command, but he began to slow a bit, giving Phil Levering a chance to overtake the top spot. Mike Wahl, who had started dead last, had then worked his way up to the second position and began to put pressure on Levering. A brush with the wall for Levering was enough for Wahl to take the lead and never look back as he took the checkers over Levering, Steve Todorow, Russ Killian and Travis Schwenk. A 25-lap Mother’s Day race was held for the ladies and it began with Jen Schwager on the pole and leading the first lap. Carrie Pyle ran in second and hunted Schwager for first, but it was Linsey Rummel who blasted past both to take the top spot. Rummel set a blistering pace and there was no catching her as she lapped the entire field by the time the checkers flew. Pyle finished as the runner-up, followed by Brianna Lobach. The next event is “Memorial Day Madness” on June 6th. The entire 2010 NEETS schedule, full results and points standings van be viewed by visiting www.neetsracing.com.
